Once the final bowl of an end has come to rest, the score is determined based on the relative positions of all live bowls to the jack (Law 40). Only "live" equipment—including touchers in the ditch—can be considered for scoring. If the jack or any bowls are displaced while measuring, Law 37 provides the framework for resetting the head or seeking an umpire’s decision. It is the responsibility of the players (usually the Thirds or Skips) to agree on the score before any bowls are moved. Once the score is agreed upon, the end is officially complete. Any dispute during this process is resolved by the Umpire, whose decision on the physical position of the equipment is final.
