Forehand and Backhand Deliveries

Lawn bowls is defined by its bias, a weighted side that causes the bowl to curve during its journey. A Forehand delivery for a right-handed player is directed to the right of the jack, curving inwards to the left. Conversely, a Backhand is directed to the left, curving inwards to the right. Law 11 requires that all bowls be delivered within the side boundaries of the rink. If a bowl is delivered with such a wide arc that it crosses the side boundary of the rink, it may be declared "dead" if it does not return to the playing area. Players must judge the "line" of delivery carefully to account for the green's speed and the specific bias of their chosen woods.
