In a game of Fours, the Second is tasked with the team’s administrative duties under Law 40.1.4. They are responsible for maintaining the official scorecard, which includes recording the names of all players and the shots scored for and against their team at the conclusion of every end. Throughout the match, the Second must compare their scorecard with the opposing Second to ensure both records are identical and accurate. As a bowler, the Second must be versatile; they are often required to either "protect" the Lead’s bowls by playing positional shots or to "draw" and overturn a negative head if the opposition has taken the early advantage.
