Tactical deliveries like the "Block" and "Plant" are used to protect a lead or disrupt an opponent's strategy. A block is a draw shot played to finish short of the head, intentionally obstructing the opponent's preferred line of delivery. While not a specific legal term, its validity is protected by Law 13, which ensures no player interferes with a bowl in course. A "Plant" (or "Set") is a controlled weight shot where one bowl is struck into another to displace a target. Under Law 14.2, any bowls moved by this action are placed in their new positions, provided they remain within the rink. These shots emphasise the strategic complexity of the sport at a competitive level.
